National Geographic Jurl

A friend and I have a new game going at work: Find Your National Geographic Twin. As is often the case, it begins with me being rude by finding a funny animal picture and attaching it to an unsuspecting victim. To make myself feel less bitchy, I decided to find my own National Geographic twin, aka Nat G twin, so I set out to find an animal that personifies moi. My twin appears to the right-- the Magnificent Manatee. Now, all my friends are going to comment, "Stop it! That isn't funny! You're not a manatee!!" so let me say right up front that I know I'm not an actual manatee. I only wish I was an actual manatee! It's not just the large proportions of the manatee I see myself in, but the Manatee's way of life. Manatees spend most of their day eating and sleeping. Ah, bliss. Left to my own devices I would plop on the couch with a book in one hand and the remote in the other, moving only to eat. And manatees are a bit jiggly under the arms, much like myself. We have so much in common it was really a no-brainer when it came to picking out my Nat G twin. I can't imagine a better life than rolling around in the water, eating, and pooping at my leisure.

Though I dream of being one of those women that is always on the go, always movin and shakin, I'm just not. The only thing I'm shakin is celulite. I do seem to be in constant motion, but that's only because I have to be and it's more about cleaning up baby puke, wiping poo poo bottoms, cooking dinner, and putting up Halloween decorations than really "doing" anything. Truly active people are ahead of the game not constantly struggling to keep up with daily drudgery of life. So, though my life (and the people in it) force me to keep moving, the reality is I would happily laze about in the warm waters off the coast of Florida if given half the chance. However, I will not answer to "Sea Cow," another name for the lovely manatee.

So, I encourage everyone to surf the web and find your very own Nat G twin. Maybe you're a giraffe? Or a sloth? Only you can truly answer the question. Happy hunting!

Did you know that ancient sailors would often mistake manatees for mermaids? They are truely beautiful and seem so peaceful and friendly. As for me, I think my Nat. G twin would be the Lioness, because not only does she have the soul responsibility of caring for the cubs but she and the other lionesses are the ones who hunt for the food. She is fiercely protective of her young, when it comes to my kids you better watch out. As the hotdog vendor at the soccer game found out when Kyle returned to me short changed.

I love manatees. They seem so gentle and kind. We saw them at Sea World, and could have stood there and watched them all day. Not a bad choice, I believe. I'll have to think on this for myself for awhile.

My Nat G twin would be those African Tribe ladies with the saggie boobs (three kids will do that to you...despite boob surgery a decade ago) and oh yes, they do accessorize well.
